Fleet 30 Notes
Greetings Fleet 30 sailors and friends of sailing. What an unusual year and a half
we have had! Covid 19 restrictions have cut back on our group activities, and even
now, as life seems to be coming back to normal,we have to continue to keep a
weather eye on the emergence of the delta variant of the virus. Part of the idea
of cruising for fun is that we try to minimize the risk of our activities to the
health and lives of our members. We move forward towards the restart of full
sailing activities and get-togethers with some degree of caution because we care.
We generally have a lull in activities during the hot summer months of July and
August in any case, but may have some short trips as the weather permits.
Let's start some more formal planning for events in September and October. Get
your ideas and suggestions in to me and I will put them out for the club to review.
We still encourage the informal group trips that may be initiated by one boat of
the club planning a local trip and inviting other boats to join in. In order to
facilitate this I would encourage anyone planning a trip in the near future to let
me know about it and I will send out an invitation through this e-mail list. Send
me information or details on my main contact email:
ariel1@msn.com, or giveme a call at home: 757 483-9956. Leave a message if I am not home and I will call
you back.

From Andy Shanks: Don't know if you've seen this, but it may be a way to beat the winter blues. It's an online game to practice docking various boats in different conditions.

Tim Leighton has written about an excellent knot-tying
site, http://www.animatedknots.com/.
Take a look!!
Anthony Bavuso has written about an interesting new web site for sailors:
"I
have stumbled upon a really neat sailing site that I thought others in the club
might appreciate. It is called furled sails and it is located at http://www.furledsails.com.
They have a weekly podcast about sailing. If you don’t already
know a podcast is an audio recording in a format for your ipod or mp3 player,
and it is like a regular radio show. It’s pretty neat.
Here's a great sail trim guide
